GCSE Results: Navigating the Next Steps at Repton Al Barsha
GCSE Results Day is an important milestone for students, bringing a mixture of excitement, relief and, for some, uncertainty about what comes next. In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, host Helen Farmer welcomed Claire Togher, Deputy Head of Senior School at Repton Al Barsha, to discuss the school’s GCSE results and how students and families can approach the next stage of their educational journey.
Claire reflected on a positive Results Day at Repton Al Barsha, where 43% of grades were awarded at 8–9, and shared advice for students whose results may not have been what they had hoped for. She encouraged families to allow time for results to settle, speak openly with teachers and careers advisers, and carefully consider options such as reviews of marking or resits before making decisions.
The conversation also explored the different pathways available after GCSEs and how students can make choices based on the subjects they enjoy and where their strengths and interests lie, even if they are not yet certain about their future career. Claire also discussed the transition from GCSEs to A Levels, highlighting the importance of independence, organisation and time management as students adjust to more in-depth learning and greater responsibility for their studies.
For families considering what comes after GCSEs, Claire’s advice offers a helpful reminder that results are only one part of a student’s journey and that there are different routes available to help them move forward.
