Distance learning can be challenging for families with primary-aged children, particularly when balancing independence, focus, and daily routines. In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, host Helen Farmer spoke with Sol Bower, Upper Junior School Teacher at Repton Al Barsha, to share practical guidance for parents.

Sol highlighted that children’s ability to work independently varies across year groups, making flexibility essential. While schools are delivering a mix of live and recorded lessons to support different needs, wellbeing remains the top priority, ensuring children feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn.

The discussion also emphasised the importance of regular breaks, movement, and maintaining simple routines to support concentration. Small adjustments, such as short activities between lessons, can make a significant difference.

For parents, setting realistic expectations and maintaining open communication with teachers is key. Every child will respond differently, and progress should be viewed with balance and understanding.

Overall, the conversation reinforced a shared goal between schools and families: supporting children to feel confident, settled, and able to continue their learning from home.
