In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, Helen Farmer spoke with Isla McLean, Head of Geography at Repton Al Barsha, about how students can manage distance learning during exam season.

Isla highlighted that the main challenge for older students is the disruption to routine, requiring greater independence, time management, and self-discipline. She noted, however, that many students are adapting well and drawing on the skills developed in school.

She emphasised the importance of active revision techniques, such as testing and exam practice, rather than simply rereading notes. Students were also encouraged to focus on more challenging topics to make the most of their revision time.

Alongside academics, wellbeing remains essential. Maintaining routines, taking breaks, staying active, and limiting distractions from phones and social media all support better focus and performance. For parents, the advice is to provide structure and encouragement while avoiding unnecessary pressure.

This conversation offers practical guidance for families navigating distance learning, with a clear focus on balance, independence, and supporting students through a demanding period.
