Celebrating Culture and Identity Through a Student Lens at Repton Al Barsha
In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, Year 13 student Haniya Mirza from Repton Al Barsha shared a thoughtful reflection on growing up in the UAE and celebrating National Day.
Haniya, who moved to Dubai at the age of four, spoke about the privilege of being raised in one of the safest and most opportunity-rich countries in the world. She highlighted how the UAE has shaped her independence, confidence and outlook, allowing her, as a young woman, to feel secure, supported and able to explore her ambitions freely.
She also emphasised the impact of studying in a diverse school community. Being surrounded by classmates from many nationalities, Haniya explained, has taught her open-mindedness, respect and ease in connecting with people from all backgrounds, skills she believes will be invaluable at university and beyond.
As she prepares to study biomedical engineering in the UK, Haniya shared her emotions about leaving the UAE, a place she considers home. While excited for the next chapter, she expressed her hope to eventually return to Dubai, carrying with her the experiences and values the city has given her.
Haniya’s perspective offers a warm and insightful glimpse into how the UAE shapes its young people into confident, globally aware individuals.
