In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, James Clark, PE Teacher at Repton Al Barsha, discussed how schools can help every child feel included in sport. He highlighted sports days as one of the most accessible moments of the year, offering activities that suit different abilities and giving pupils the chance to take part with their friends and families watching on.

James shared how his own school experience shaped his career, explaining that he now aims to create the same sense of enjoyment and belonging for his pupils. A major focus of the conversation was girls’ participation, with Repton Al Barsha seeing rising interest in rugby and cricket as pupils explore new sports beyond traditional pathways. He also noted that children are far more likely to stay active when they see sport modelled at home, turning movement into a shared family habit rather than a school-only experience.

For James, sport is ultimately about connection, widening friendships, building confidence and giving young people a positive relationship with movement that they can carry into adulthood. He encouraged families to stay active as a unit, explore different sporting experiences, and allow children the freedom to find the activities that feel right for them.
